Autumnal Beers Ahoy!

Share Blog

Over the last couple of years, we - like all other breweries and hospitality venues - have had to adapt to the strange and challenging circumstances facing us. During the 2020 lockdowns, with draft production at a standstill, we pivoted heavily towards producing limited-edition, hand-bottled releases for our online shop. We enjoyed spending more time interacting directly with our fans online, and were pleased to get such amazing and consistent feedback on our beers. This year, our Studio kit took a back seat, as we geared up to ensure we had enough draft core range beer to cover the reopening of the on-trade, and over the last months we've been slowly increasing small-batch production, with a particular focus on our new Studio range of draft exclusives.

Despite this, we've managed to squeeze in three brand-new bottled beers, which evoke Autumn - the best season, no arguments - and are available right now. Details are below - plus, the scoop on our zero waste sour beer, Spare Parts.

Spare Parts3.8% Zero Waste Sour

Spare Parts pint

As part of the Plate Up For Glasgow sustainability campaign, we're taking surplus food and using it to create specials for our Brasserie. We've taken the same concept and brewed up a Berliner Weisse, augmenting our wheat base with bread supplied by Tesco (hand-cut into cubes and toasted), and added the parts of fruit and veg that our bar team couldn't make use of  in our drinks garnishes (think cucumber middles, citrus peel, apple cores and over-ripe berries).

Brewing Spare Parts

The result is a bright and juicy sour session beer, with a toastier malt profile than you'd normally find in a Berliner, but still with a smack of bracing acidity, a hallmark of the style. The fruit character is muted, and adds an underlying subtle layer of citrus complexity, and perhaps a hint of malic character (the sourness you get in apples).

Spare Parts is available now; this one-off small batch is being gifted to venues participating in Plate Up For Glasgow, on the condition that any profits from the sale of the beer is donated to The Trussell Trust.

Sticks 'n' Stones- 5% Oak and Apricot Saison

Sticks n Stones 330ml bottle

The first of our bottled releases this month, Sticks 'n' Stones is a light and spicy 5% ABV saison, brewed with apricot puree and conditioned on oak chips. Mellow and fruity Hallertauer Blanc is enhanced by the apricot, while the oak brings warmth and a touch of tannic character that blends beautifully with the saison yeast profile and the spicy Saaz. A remarkably elegant and rewarding saison, that we're very proud of indeed.

Spooky Bitch- 9% Pumpkin Spice Latte White Stout

Spooky Bitch 330ml bottle

We were super excited when Shobee Scribbles approached us and asked if we'd be up for a collab to develop the next in her series of Spooky Bitch products, and serendipitously it lined up with a concept we'd been working on. Thus, our new pumpkin spice latte white stout Spooky Bitch was born.

Spooky Bitch is a 9% ABV golden-hued imperial-strength ale, brewed with lactose sugar, coffee beans and vanilla, and infused with pumpkin spice blend (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and clove - no pumpkins were harmed in the making of this beer). Rich, sweet, warming and beautifully spiced, it strongly evokes the seasonal coffee it's inspired by, but retains a bold strong ale character of its own.

We've also started working with a new supplier to help us nail the quality of our small-batch labels and get them to the high standard that our brewers and collaborators set with their incredible work, and we're really pleased with how these first ones have turned out. We hope we've done Shona proud, and that our beer stands up next to her amazing merch.

Arrakis- 11% Spiced Belgian Quad

Arrakis 330ml bottle

The third of our bottled releases this month is a returning Drygate classic. Chosen as an autumnal release for its flavour profile alone, and ABSOLUTELY IN NO WAY BECAUSE OF A FILM THAT HAPPENS TO HAVE BE OUT TODAY, is Arrakis.

Arrakis is a dry, warm and spice-rich p̶l̶a̶n̶e̶t̶ Belgian-style quad. This hazy, mahogany-brown ale features aromas of toasted brown bread, clove, and black pepper, with flavours of almost-burnt caramel, brown sugar, a touch of coffee and hints of orange oil. Light-footed but heavy-hitting, it clocks in at 11% ABV, yet dances lightly on the palate. The additions of orange peel and long pepper add depth and nuance.

All three bottled beers can be found on our online shop as of 1pm today, and Spare Parts can be found at our own Brasserie, with other participating venues to be confirmed - keep an eye on our social channels for updates!
