An unmissable Black Friday deal

Share Blog

Ah, Black Friday. That wonderful time of year when every business scrambles for your attention, by slashing their prices and launching UNMISSABLE deals. Buy three washing machines for the price of two? SOLD.

Sack that.

When we launched our Can for a Can swap back in June, we hoped to see enough interest to get the shelves of Drumchapel Food Bank topped up. The response was staggering; we have been overwhelmed by the reaction of our amazing community.

Over a thousand cans of beer have already been swapped for food, but this doesn't even begin to cover the generosity we've seen from the people of Glasgow (and beyond). While 1077 cans of beer have been handed out, we've seen so many people handing in bagfuls of food and other essentials, without even taking a single can away. We've lost track of how much has been handed in, but trust us when we say IT'S A LOT.

So, to say thank you, we're launching our own Black Friday offer - swap one can of food for one can of beer, and get one free.

Turn up at Drygate and we'll give you two cans of beer (up to a max of 12) for every tin of food you donate. You can choose from Bearface Lager, Crossing the Rubicon West Coast IPA or Chimera India Pale Lager. We'll accept more than six tins of food per donation, but we'd like to continue to promote responsible drinking, hence the cap.

In June, we said "we’d also like to encourage other breweries to do the same, or find other ways to help local food banks. We know beer is a luxury item - our industry is not essential, so it’s crucial that those of us in privileged positions do what we can to help those in need of the basics."

Other breweries stepped up.

Fierce Beer, Camden Town, Cross Borders, Beavertown and more, have since launched their own can donation schemes. Hats off gang, we're proud to be part of an industry that gives back and does some good.

See you soon!

*Terms and Conditions: To ensure that swappers are not left disappointed, we would like to encourage swappers to donate on Sunday - Thursday inclusive, when we aren’t at our busiest and may not have staff free to handle the exchange - especially during the festive season. Standard ID checks and age restrictions on the sale of alcohol will apply. There is a twelve can limit per donation, to ensure responsible drinking is observed. The team will not accept any food items with less than 3 months remaining on their shelf life. We will run this version of the can swap throughout December, and review again in January.
