Orpheus - 10.4% Imperial Stout

Our 1,000th brew, 'Orpheus' is a 10.4% Imperial Stout.

Brewed by Brewer Phil on the 24th of July with a recipe created by Head Brewer Dave & Lead Brewer Pete and with some delicious adjuncts suggested by Jacky from our Brewhouse Bar team, 'Orpheus' is our 1,000th gyle from our 24Hl production brewhouse: A 10.4% Imperial Stout with Blackcurrants & Lapsang Souchong tea.

The Beer
Clocking in at 10.4% 'Orpheus' is an approachable yet complex Imperial Stout, the only style of beer we considered for our 1,000th brew.
Ebony hued and with a thick brown head, ‘Orpheus’ was designed to give a balanced complexity while allowing for contrasting and complementary flavours from the cold-side additions. The aroma is dominated by smoke from the speciality tea, recalling pine forests and whisky drams, with an underlying redolence of freshly brewed coffee, coco beans and a hint of sweet dark fruit. On first sip, the flavours follow the aroma, with the smoke exiting stage left to allow for an exciting interplay between tart and sweet fruit, with chocolate and coffee emerging at the forefront from the decadent malt bill.
